Passing of Uechi-ryu warrior, Howard Kravets. . .

Sorry to learn of the passing of my very dear friend and Uechi-ryu black belt student Howard B. Kravets. Howard was one of my early private students, who taught me a lot about life while I taught him karate. He is responsible for creating the Uechi-ryu “friendship award” and presented the first gold friendship medallion to me.
I forget the date, but I have never taken the medallion off since that day. The last time I saw him a few years ago, the first thing he did was to make sure I was wearing it.

KRAVETS, Howard B. Of Dedham, MA, formerly of Hull, W. Yarmouth, MA, & Jupiter, FL, passed away on September 25, 2014. Beloved husband of Julie (Sawyer) Kravets. Devoted father of Susan Brady and her husband Jim of Framingham, MA, and Robert Kravets and his wife Nancy of Needham, MA. Cherished grandfather of Brandon Greenstein of NC, Emily Greenstein of MA, Rebecca Mindick and her husband Adam of TN, and Alexander Kravets of MA. Proud great grandfather of Willow Rose of NC. Honored Veteran of World War II and the Army Air Core. He was a lieutenant in the 8th Air Force and was shot down over France and Germany. He escaped through the French Underground on one occasion and from a German Prisoner War Camp on another. He was awarded multiple Purple Hearts and battle ribbons, the Bronze Star, and the French Legion of Honor for his extraordinary bravery. He was a sculptor and the author of several novellas as well a novel named True North, of which he was very proud. As a successful business man, he was able to travel the world. He spoke six languages and was awarded black belts in Judo and Uechiryu Karate. As patriarch of our family he served as the glue that bound us together no matter how far apart we were. He will be greatly missed! Services at Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 475 Washington St., Canton, MA, on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 12 Noon. Memorial observance will be held in the Interfaith Chapel at Newbridge on the Charles on Tuesday, September 30, from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 150 Cambridge Park Drive, Suite 202, Cambridge, Massachusetts 02140
