It's been a while, but I seem to remember him challenging 6' 5" 353 lb Bob Sapp, who is listed as a possible rival on that link. Bob Sapp came straight from football to pro fighting with no training. This could be the ultimate test of does skill beat size. I predict Sapp's death if they fight.

Sapp is huge and powerful, but he tires easily. Unless he can knock Tyson out in the first few minutes of the fight, I think Tyson will put him to sleep.

In all my years of training, practice, and competition, I never feared big people per se. I was instead fearful of the fast, powerful ones, and the folks with street-ugly mindset. We shall see what Bob Sapp is made of.

Anyone remember the days of Wilt Chamberlain entertaining the idea of fighting Muhammed Ali?

Tyson v Sapp

Post by Alan K »

Tyson is a formidable oponent if he can get inside.

If he can get openings his powerful left cross and right uppercut can mean a KO. He is an example of from the floor torque while delivering very powerful body punches, followed by a devistating jaw strike or other head strikes, and Sapp will know he has been sapped.

The question is whether or not he still has his legs and can full focus on the inside.

If Sapp does not have boxer stamina, Tyson will know this, tire him out, and go for the inside.

I really don't know the K-1 rules.

I can only speculate that Sapp will be much slower affording the opportunity to Tyson of delivering combinations.

I'm not well versed in the K-1 rules, though I've seen 1 or 2 of these fights. There appears to be more stand up grappling and clinch, though I don't think this favours Sapp, as Tyson, like many boxers, can clinch well and knows how to hide his head. Certainly, Tyson has the street in him, as he inappropriately demonstrates throughout his career.

Should be interesting.

If its not a work I predict Tyson Knocking out Sapp in the first round , Sapp hasnt proved to have a chin of any kind and I cant se Tyson not landing a shot

I remember when Mark Gastineu of the Jets tried boxing. He was useless. Tyson was a fighter, trained to box and fight for a long time. Unless Sapp has some skills no one knows about, and Tyson is maintaining some sort of workout regimen.

Has Sapp been training for years to take head and body shots from a hard puncher?

I predict Tyson easily winning.

In case some of you didn't read the whole article I linked to...
Arum, though, saw first-hand how poorly a world-class athlete from another sport would have performed against Ali.
Arum was in London with Ali in the mid-1960s when football superstar Jim Brown was there filming a movie. Brown had yet to announce his retirement from the NFL, but went up to Arum, a close friend, and said he wanted to fight Ali.
Arum relayed the message to Ali who said to bring Brown to London's Hyde Park. When they arrived, Ali told Brown to try to hit and not to worry about his, Ali's safety.
"Jimmy was obviously a big, strong guy and he would probably have beaten the (crap) out of everyone in the NFL at the time," Arum said. "Ali told him to hit him and Jimmy started swinging. He was throwing these big, hard punches, but he wasn't coming close to hitting him.
"Then, Ali said he would start to hit back when Jimmy was trying to hit him. And Ali hit him in the face with an open palm and slapped him about 20 times before Jimmy could get out of the way. Jimmy was one of the great athletes ever, but boxing is a different sport and that's why I don't think Chamberlain wouldn't have been much of a threat."
Jim Brown was one bad mother ....

I have watched a few of Sapp's fights and he does not impress me. He DEFINATELY has a glass jaw!!!! Kimo almost KO'd a couple of times. Tyson is WAY to fast for Sapp and will be able to dodge his slow sweeping hooks and get inside and hurt him. I predict Tyson by round 2 and that would require Mike just dancing for a round to ruin Sapps cardio or lack there of! Rember he was a lineman not a linebacker, saftery or anything that required running!
