Eternity

Post by david »

stretches out into the boundless, light blue sky, unobstructed by nary a cloud. The day, two years before, was much like today in the northeast. The glory of that day was belied by the events soon to follow. On that day, thousands of folks like us -- sons/daughters, mothers/fathers, brothers/sisters -- all loved, proceeded into the beyond much too soon -- Many perished in a blink of an eye and others had only minutes to make the choice of a fiery end or a brief leap through broken glass into the blue eternity. And, a smaller group, more fortunate perhaps, to have had the choice to die heroically.

There will be many more days like this. The world will continue to turn. But for this generation of Americans, our consciousness of the human world and our place in it may never be the same again...

Memories of 9/11

Post by gmattson »

I flew out of Boston on 9/10 for Argentina.

On the 11th, I was trying to call Susan when a student called me over to the TV which was on a Spanish program. In the background I could see and hear US CNN reporters describing and showing live pictures of the second airplane hitting the tower.

What a terrible and lonely feeling. One that I'll never forget.

Last year's anniversary I did by best to avoid reading/listening to anything about the event. Too much going on already without all the different agenda to sort out...

Yesterday was different... I was driving down Tremont St. towards work. Temont is a wide street going straight towards downtown. I was looking at the approaching high rises, framed by the clear blue sky, thinking what a beautiful day it was. It dawned on me, that was the same view I had two years ago driving to work... when the planes struck.

A knot tightened at the pit of my stomach. 9/11 has altered many things in our day to day lives and will continue indefinitely (for better or worse).
