MailBag Feedback Forum archives.[please do not post to this archive forum]

Note: In the course of a month I get literally thousands of e-mail. I don't normally place correspondence in the "Mailbag" that are either labeled "personal" or contain information of a personal nature. As I read and answer mail, if I find a letter that I find interesting, amusing, topical or educational, it gets filed in my "mailbag" for future use in this feature. I try to edit out any personal information like addresses or telephone numbers, unless the writer specifically requests that I publish it.

I welcome all e-mail and will answer everyone in as timely a manner as possible. Don't be surprised if you find (or don't find) your message in this section. However, if you are concerned about your letter finding its way into the "Mailbag", simply include in the header or at the beginning of message "personal" and I will honor your request. GEM

Sensei,

I have signed up for WinterFest and I am looking forward to meeting all of you in Tallahassee!!!

Question...Should I bring my BO or is this strictly an empty hands event?

Rick (Ross Michael Wiseman) Liebespach

So happy you asked Rick. By all means, bring your BO. This year WinterFest will have many guest instructors, including many who will be teaching various martial art weapons. Please talk-up the event at your dojo. GEM

Dear Mr. Mattson

My name is Chris Peotrowski and I reside in Rhode Island. I currently hold the rank of Nikyu as a student with David Hovey in Gloucester, RI. I started my Uechi studies with Charles Earle and now study Uechi with David as well as Tai Chi with John Conroy. I've also had the pleasure of making your acquaintance at one of your camps on the Cape several years ago.

I will soon be moving to the Boca Raton area and would like any info on Uechi schools in that area.

Respectfully submitted

Chris Peotrowski

Please check out the "Instructor's" link found on the Uechi home page Chris. By the way, will you be coming to WinterFest next month in Tallahassee??? GEM

A small "Plug"! Check out our Outer Banks product store! Lots of great sportswear. GEM

If Susann is ready with the website, we will send pictures from Beatrice´s handmade jewellery to you. Beatrice works with every kind of material, like pearls, platinum, gold except silver. The Grand Opening was on 1oth November and a lot of people from our new Hometown Erding visit us. Also friends from Regensburg

Sensei,

I have had the pleasure of working with Bill Kipp with his FAST (fear adrenaline stress training) Defense and wanted to know if there would be interest in having Bill do some demos at camp. If you would like to contact Bill about this his email address is Billkipp@aol.com . If you would like to know more about the Fast Defense you can vist Bill's website www.fastdefense.com .

This training is awesome and I think a lot of people would really enjoy it.

If you have any questions for me, I'll be glad to help.

Best,

Alan Lowell

Sounds like a great idea Alan. Anyone else interested in having Bill Kipp attend our camp??? GEM

Dear Senseis George &Van I write this note to them by something special. As you properly know and have been notified two of the I.U.K.F athletes. they have gained a place in the event, World-wide Championship of karate to be carried out in October proximo in Yugoslavia, organized by the World-wide Confederation of Karate. They estan trying to confront the expenses of trip and estadia, 1500 dolares by athlete, that must obtain before March of proximo year, so that the Union Argentina de Karate, efectue the lodging reserves estadia and aerial passage. Until the moment, between all aqui, and with the aid of sponsors, relatives and friends, we have been able to join but of half of the money that they need. My question is the following one, is some way in which I.U.K.F. can help Soledad and Ayelen economicamente, so that they can see fulfilled their dream to participate in the World-wide one of Karate? If outside possible, from already I thank for personally, since the families of these chil! dren are of limited economicos resources, and the economica situation by which this passing Argentina, makes us impossible to obtain to him algun type of official aid. If it can, or... and if not equal one can this or, in any case Thank you very much I wait for your answers. A strong hug Carlos

Sensei Carlos Ciriza Renshi Rokudan

Carlos: It would be nice if IUKF had a fund for such purposes, but unfortunately it doesn't. Perhaps some of our readers will have some ideas on how Uechi-ryu practitioners might help your team out. GEM

I'm new to Boston and was looking for a place I can take class in the earlier part of the day. I'm a cook and work nights with no set days off. A friend I work with has study in one of your schools for years and recommends them. I was hoping you could send me some info about anything that might me near to me. I live in Brookline and work in back bay. Thank you for your time and help. . .  have a good day

Sarah

Hope Ed Huff was able to help you. If not, check back with me. GEM

Mattson Sensei,

I am a former student of Huff Sensei at the Beacon Hill Dojo, and I am currently living in Shimane Prefecture in Japan. While in Japan for the past few years, I have continued studying martial arts, but I have been unable to find Uechi-ryu. Although I found great satisfaction in the study of Aikido over here, I miss the Uechi style. It is the kata work, and the conditioning that I yearn for. I have looked at other styles of karate here, but I would like to continue on the Uechi path. I have done web searches for Uechi dojos in Japan, and I have found nothing. I was hoping that you might have some information that could be helpful.

Yoroshiku onegaishimasu,

Steve Henneberry _____

Not sure how long my student, Justin Testa will be visiting in Tokyo, but I'm sure he would enjoy working out with you while he is there.

I've included his email address in this header.

Also, I've sent your request to Gordi Breyette on Okinawa. He knows where most of the Uechi dojo are located in Japan.

Good luck. GEM

Hi George:

I'm trying to put rough plans together for next summer. Is your Summer Camp 2002 scheduled for

Aug 2-4 or Aug 10-12?

Bruce Hirabayashi

Wow. . . Another Great question Bruce. No conflicts next year. . . At least none that I know of at this point. So we go back to our 2nd weekend in August date. . . That is August 9, 10th, and 11th. GEM

Note: I've only been able to put a small dent in my recent email. It is 5pm on Saturday, Dec 8th, and Susan just called upstairs to remind me to get ready for Harry and Suzanne's party!!! So.... I'll be updating this file during the week. Check back on Monday for new mail. GEM
