Dear George,
I hope your time away was pleasant. I have been away myself since 12/20, but
now I'd like to take you up on your offer to advise me on recruitment of students.
Walk-in registration at Cornell is 1/17/97. I need at least 10-12 students to sign
up. I've already put some flyers up on campus, but that's a pretty diffuse strategy,
between the size of the campus and all their posting rules. I look forward to
hearing from you, and thank you for your help.

I would like to respond to the "Point Of View" question. How to build up
enrollment in a college? I have been teaching at the University of Massachusetts -
Boston, for five years. Some of the ideas I have used to build up the student body
are as follows:
1. Become a registered RSO on campus.. That is a "Registered Student
Organization".. By becoming one, you will recieve University funding, and will
recieve a location to hold classes, free of charge.
2. Once this is done. You will be listed in the student activites book that will be
passed out to all students on campus.
3. When the school holds registration day. Pass out informational flyers to all
students.
4. Post flyers all over the campus. Some dojo's i know even perform a little demo
on campus to attract students.
5. I had karate club T-Shirts made up. I wore one and other students in the club
wore them... Like a walking billboard... if you have no students, wear one
yourself, and give a couple away to friends to wear.
6. If your school has a radio station, ask for a free public service ad, advertising
your school club. Do the same with the school newspaper. Write the story
yourself..
7. Ask some of the professors to mention the karate club in there classes.. Just
like this: I would like to announce the formation of a university karate club. If you
are intrested, please see Jay for details....
These are some of the basic ideas i have used to build my club. If i can help you in
any way, I will be glad to... You can reach me at my e-mail address, which is
ajj@gis.net
Also please check out my dojo web page. http://www.gis.net/~ajj/
I wish you good luck.....
