MailBag Feedback Forum archives.[please do not post to this archive forum]

Note: In the course of a month I get literally thousands of e-mail. I don't normally place correspondence in the "Mailbag" that are either labeled "personal" or contain information of a personal nature. As I read and answer mail, if I find a letter that I find interesting, amusing, topical or educational, it gets filed in my "mailbag" for future use in this feature. I try to edit out any personal information like addresses or telephone numbers, unless the writer specifically requests that I publish it.

I welcome all e-mail and will answer everyone in as timely a manner as possible. Don't be surprised if you find (or don't find) your message in this section. However, if you are concerned about your letter finding its way into the "Mailbag", simply include in the header or at the beginning of message "personal" and I will honor your request. GEM

Mr. Mattson:

Marcus Traynor here. Thanks for your appearance at the Literary Luncheon, you made the day for those kids. I have enclosed some pictures that Mr. Durkin asked me to send to you.

I look forward to seeing you again soon,

Marcus Traynor

George,

Hi there - would LOVE to see CD of katas!!!

In particular how you do San Chin (San Jan in chinese) and what you call SeiSan in your book meaning 13 as there is a form in crane called shr san tai bao (13 defenses) which probably has similarities. In fact Shr san tai bao exists in lots of systems so is an interesting form from that perspective.

Maybe I could turn into a correspondent student like the American universities.

Would you like me to send a White Crane Kata for comparison? I could get Shr San Tai Bao put onto an MPG and e-mail it....

Best Regards,
Martin Watts

Hello from my phone conversation this morning the lady said that she would discuss my situation with you as to what book or books I should order. As I told her this morning I broke my neck last March and have made great improvements with PT but I think I need something else to help in my recovery. I studied with Jim Maloney in Halifax Nova Scotia more than 25 years ago. I haven't been working since the accident, so if one book is sufficient that would be great as I don't have very much money at the time. Thanks for your time Thomas W Lane

Hi: Susan did speak with me and I suggested to her that she send you Al Moulton's book. It has the most complete description of the kata, drills and exercises. She is also sending you vidmag 17, which will help you with all the basics and many of the intermediate kata, exercises and drill. The two will be a great help in getting you back on track.

When you can afford it, my books and Allan Dollar's book would be a good addition to your library.

Best, George Mattson

Dear George,

Thanks for replying to my e-mail. The reason it's taken me so long to reply is that I couldn't access my web-server. I am really encouraged by your support in starting a Uechi dojo in Lakeland as part of IUKF; I consider it an honor. I know there are very few traditional dojos left. I'm in the process of determining who might be interested in working out. Any guidance in setting up a new dojo would be appreciated. Please send an application. Also, where do I get info on the SummerFest? If possible, I'd like to attend. Looking forward to seeing you. Best regards to you and Susan.
Sincerely,
David (Selby) Zelbovitz

Good luck with your plans to open a study group David. I'll help in any way possible. Our SummerFest brochure and applications can be found on the home page under the "Spring/Summer Newsletter". GEM

Hi Mr. Mattson, I did talk to Jim Mather the other day and he said to say hi. He also told me that you were "One of his favorites in the martial arts". His advice was for me to help you and your organization any way I could if I had the time to spare. He only asked that if I went to Cape Cod to do a seminar that I had to take him with me.:)

The article I sent is just a work in progress. I send out a weekly concept to my students, and that is just a few of them I through together. If you would like, I will add you to my list and any that you feel would benefit your membership, please do as you see fit. When I asked Brian Tracy if I could use his material in my program he said, " You have unlimited rights to use any of my material in your wonderful program." I have attached the last couple of weeks material for you to read, and use as you wish, if you think it will be of benefit.

Respectfully,

Terry Bryan

Thanks Terry. As you send in articles, I will include them on our site. By the way, congratulations on your spectacular arrow catch on Ripley's Believe it of Not show. GEM

I don't know if you can help me or not but I am looking for ,renshi, Jan Bass' e-mail address. My daughter, son, and I used to be students of hers, until dec 6th, 2000, when my son passed away. I recently heard that her husband, kyoshi, Joe Bass, has passed away. I have long distance blocks on my phone so I can't call her. I would very much like her e-mail address. Moe Mensale referred me to you. I hope you can help. THANK YOU,

BRENDA TOWNSEND

If someone has Jan's email address, I will forward it to you. GEM

I am new to computers, forums, ugh, this whole thing. I followed the instructions, tried to post and keep getting a cannot screen. I'm frustrated.

Not sure how familiar you are with the process, so will take you step by step through the drill:

1. Go to http://www.xpres.net/~gmattson/ubbs/, where the forums are located.

2. Click on the "Register" link, which is located in the upper right section.

3. Go to the bottom of the page and click on "Agree".

4. Fill out the information form, using whatever "handle" or username you will be using on the forums.

5. I suggest you allow the board to remember your username and password for one year. Saves lots of typing.

6. Click "Submit Registration".

7. Your password and username will be emailed to you. (This makes sure that all people are using their real email address.)

8. Go to the forums and post. The first time you post or reply, you must type in your user name and password. The Board will remember this information in the future. (Remember that your password and username is case sensitive.)

Again... looking forward to working with you. Welcome aboard.

Best,

George Mattson

Hi! Shihan,

Please send full details of the summer camp 2002,I would like to attend! I noticed on the web site, the full camp price being $ 375-00 this includes full board, and all meals, but what is the cost for the tuition fees, for the training?

Also, as I live in the U.K I would like to arrive several days earlier, to get over jet lag would this be possible? Please advise full costs, accommodation, meals, and training!!

Many thanks,

Osu,

Mike.

Please let me know your arrival information and I'll try to find a place for you to stay. The seminars are part of the basic feel. GEM

Hi George Sensei,

Just a late note to say thanks for a great workout. Even though I hadn't quite regained the stamina to join in, I learned a lot from observing. We have instituted some of the drills Steve Perry and Roy Bedard showed in our classes. We've had ages 5 to 62 doing the deep lunge punches and linked vine stepping.

Thanks for organizing a great event

Dear Sensi Mattson.

My name is Roger Vanderpool ,(shodan)I have trained in your DoJo at ,Hancock st.back in the late 70ty's and early 80ty's.when ,Al Wharton (shaft) a student of yours and my Sensi...would bring a team up to Boston, from Bermuda, and then go to Halifax, to Sensei, Jim Maloneys tournament.. I have not been active in the art for some time ,but my heart is still there ,I have been out of touch with the dojo brothers ,for personal reasons. Roger Vanderpool...

ps:say hello to Clarence and Howie Soons for me if those guys are still around and active. I vividly remember doing my shodan test on Thompson's Island..it was an expercience I will never forget, especialy when Sensi Clarence made this announcement "will all of you potential black belts please line up" I knew right there and then I had to pass the test..and I did with flying colors...
