Two clips from George Mattson's classes at Darin Yee and John Page's open house celebration in January, 2007
I hope you find the following clips informative and helpful. They contain lots of "suggestions" and tips regarding what I consider to be my very personal and "traditional" Uechi-ryu Karate Do. I try to make a strong distinction between "ritual" martial arts and a core system that utilizes the components of the art in a multitude of ways; where there is a logical reason for everything you do.
The basics, in my estimation, are the same, whether your are going to use your martial arts to develop confidence or if someday you will add other fighting methods to your core Uechi system for the purpose of improving your "real" fighting skills and improving your odds of survival should you join the Army or need to defend your family or self.
Without strong basics, your foundation will suffer. Without the knowledge and understanding of what you are doing, your confidence in your training will suffer.
My philosophy is to make the training interesting and enjoyable for the student. A student who is happy with the training is a student who will stick with the training and who will derive the most benefit from the training. Please feel free to contact me with any comments and suggestions. Oh yes, the full two hour DVD can be purchased here.

Quite a few students and teachers came early for John Page's open house, so I worked with a couple students before the class. |
